The Haven Care Home (Boston, Lincolnshire) has achieved a rating of GOOD in their first full Care Quality Commission inspection, following Black Swan Care Group taking over the service in 2019.
A CQC inspection aims to assess the care service in a wide-range of categories, provide a rating which accurately effects the service provided, and allow care seekers to find the perfect care home for them.
The report is split into 5 main sections to assess the overall standards of care within the service to ensure compliance with latest industry standards; government guidance, and to ensure all staff within the home are fully trained and suitable to perform their roles.
Is the service safe?
This section is ensuring that residents within care homes are effectively protected from abuse and harm.
When the CQC inspector asked a resident at The Haven Care Home if they felt safe within the service, our resident responded: “Yes, I feel safe. I have my breakfast medication each morning, and they keep it clean”.

When CQC inspectors spoke to our residents loved ones during the inspection, they were told that staff had effectively supported a resident to reconnect with an old friend after years apart. Our residents daughter told inspectors: “The staff member who went with my Dad was on their day off. They (Staff) do go out of their way to help”.

This section ensures that the service provider is meeting the needs of it’s residents.
Since the service reopened in 2019, their have been no official complaints against the service. A relative told inspectors “If I have any concerns I ring and they are very good. I have no complaints but I would feel confident to raise an issue if needed”.
Is the service well-led?
This section assesses the service to see that leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture.
Staff told the inspector that they felt the home manager (Evangeline Girling) was approachable and was driving improvements within the care provided, as well as improving the morale of the staff team. One staff member told the inspector: “I love the staff I work with”.
